2012
Personally, I think it is ridiculous that people actually belive that the world is coming to an end. There has been an increased amount of paranoid people around me. I hear it all the time now. In physics we were learning about planetary motion and the rest of the galaxies. I am aware of all of the disasters occuring like the recent earthquake in Haiti, but the world is not coming to an end for millions of years! The earth is attracted to the sun and moves closer and closer to it every second. However this movement is so slight that it can barely even be measured yearly. The only way that the world will really come to an end is when the Sun becomes a black hole. A black hole forms when a star (like the sun) becomes so massive by attracting to much mass that it collapses due to its own immense gravity. Till then, which is sooooooooo long from now i am not worried about the world's sudden end. So what if there are alot of disasters occuring? I bet that the people of Italy thought the worl was coming to an end when Mt. Vesuvius erupted. Even recently the Tsunami and earthquake and everything else, they all occur in different times during history. There is no reason for a hysteria.

I agree with you the hype of the world ending in 2012 is a bit much. I think people are just scared of putting a time limit on there life in general. Most fear when they will end life, so the possibility of it ending soon just makes them go crazy. All the movies in Hollywood and other forms of media just fuel the craze even more.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree with you. I get so mad when people are like "we're all going to die in 2012 according to the Myan calendar". I think it is ridiculous for people to believe that just because the Myans ended their calendar in the year 2012 that we are all going to die. There have been so many studies on what may or may not happen in 2012 and I don't believe anything major will happen, and if something does happen it will be humans killing other humans because they think everyone is going to die.
